Pizza Oven

Adelaide, Australia

Whilst traveling in South Australia and discussing my occupation I was asked, “have you ever built a pizza oven?" "No" I replied, but after a good bit of research it was time to have a go.

After finding a local quarry to supply the stone I built the base, a basic square with a stone arch and underneath storage compartment for logs. This was topped off with fire bricks and slate, then the dome shaped oven built on top.

When the dome was complete it needed covering with a heatproof insulation, followed by a wire mesh and a couple of coats of render.

Once up and running the oven would cook a 15” pizza in under 3 minutes. Now if I’m ever asked “have you ever built a pizza oven?”  I say yes.
