Lime Pointing

Does your property need repointing? Laurie offers an experienced service using a variety of Traditional Lime Mortars.

Lime mortars are particularly suited to older properties for a number of reasons, but mainly because they are more flexible and breathable than modern cement based mortars. As moisture is able to evaporate through the mortar joints, this helps to minamise dampness, cracking and erosion of the masonry. A traditional lime mortar is generally more aesthetically pleasing and can transform the appearance of a property.

Repointing is the process of renewing the pointing (the external part of mortar joints) in masonry construction. Over time, weathering and decay cause voids in the joints between the stone, allowing the undesirable entrance of water.

Water entering through these voids can cause significant damage through frost, weathering and from salt dissolution and deposition.
