Sandstone Bridge

Weardale, County Durham

This Stone Bridge in County Durham was built for Weardale Estate and was to replace an old wooden bridge that had become unsafe.

Underneath, the bridge was made up of steel and concrete,  and my job was to face the bridge using local Alston sandstone. Two 21 piece sand blasted stone arches were constructed, these had to be millimetre perfect in order to meet in the middle. The rest of the stone facing was finished including the walls on top.

The walls were then capped off with handmade half-moon coping stones.
